Planting Beer Bottles in the Garden

No, I'm not  trying to grow beer!  I added eggs and green tea too!  It's a bit of an experiment for sure. Watch the video to find out why.

Today, I went to the scattering of my aunt's ashes. Is that what you call it? A scattering? I don't think it has a name and I don't think there was to be much of a ceremony. You may remember I posted about Aunt Nesta's Treasure.


Aunt Nesta's wish was to be scattered in the same place as her husband Alistair who died back in 2002. (I promise this is not a morbid post). They had been together for almost 60 years... can you imagine, 60 years with the same person? They had no children so had devoted themselves to their own interests and each other. How completely they lived for each other was apparent in Aunt Nesta's desolation after the death of Uncle Alistair.
Alistair had been a professor of chemistry at Oxford University, Nesta was also a chemist but worked for a long while as a librarian in the Bodleian. It's exciting this time of year, the garden is lush, the veggies are starting to bear fruit and we have a broody hen!

This stupid blogger is still not playing ball and not allowing me to embed my video, even though it's saying I can do this.. I click that option and nothing happens- do you think they know I'm going to ditch them in favour of Vlogging on YouTube? 😄🤣 Maybe.

Why Retire to Somewhere Quiet?

I get asked this alot. More specifically, why here? The location is only important to me. The idea of Retirement to my generation was always, a quieter life, putting your feet up, having time to do what you never had time for before.  The location is simply somewhere where you can do all of the above.



On a personal note, after many years of stressful work, home and children juggling I really just looked for a little more of a selfish life.



Part of my ideal retirement involved ignoring all the bad news of what's going on in the world. And for the last six years it's worked, mostly.  I found that if I simply did not read or listen to the news of what's happening in the UK or USA or EU.. life bimbled along nicely and I rarely felt stressed, anxious or worried about the future.



Of course occasionally momentous news events would make their way through and I would have to deal with things. Like the climate crises. That's depressing - but the one glimmer of hope is that now …
